We are Occupational Therapists specialising in paediatrics work with children through meaningful activity and play to help them attain the highest possible standard of life.   Our specialist Occupational Therapists’ evaluates children’s physical, sensory, psychological and social needs and helps them to maximise their abilities and independence, such as:

  1. Assisting a child with physical difficulties develop independence in self-care skills.
  2. Helping a child with sensory dysfunction become more able to cope with everyday life through assessing for & implementing a “sensory diet”.
  3. Helping a child with handwriting difficulties by identifying underlying problems (e.g. visual           perception, visual motor control) and remediating them.
  4. Helping a child with poor body and movement awareness to develop this and thus become more competent and confident in movement skills.
Who are we?
We are qualified, State-Registered Paediatric Occupational Therapists who have extensive experience working with children to help them realise their fullest potential. This requires a sound knowledge base, patience, ingenuity, determination, common sense and enthusiasm.
What is our goal?
We evaluate children’s physical, psychological and social needs and help them to maximise their abilities to function within their social and cultural environments.  We achieve this through meaningful activity and play, in ‘one to one’ and ‘group’ therapy settings, including oversight of 1:1 & groups run by parents or staff in schools.  This involves working collaboratively with parents, carers and other professionals involved with each individual child.
Who do we help?
Children and young people who have Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD – sometimes called ‘Dyspraxia’), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Sensory Processing Problems, Attention Deficit (Hyperactivity)Disorder (ADHD), Developmental Delay, Physical Disabilities, Hand Function Difficulties (e.g. handwriting or self-help skill), Cognitive and Perceptual Problems, Cerebral Palsy (CP) / Brain Injury, Behavioural Problems, Sensory Disabilities, and similar conditions.
What do we do?
We offer advice, assessment, and treatments to children from infancy to 18 years of age in a variety of different approaches – varying according to the particular need of the child and including: Sensory Integrative Therapy, Perceptual Motor Therapy, Developmental Approaches, Dance Movement Work and “Therapeutic Listening”. (Training packages also available in Sensory Issues in Autism (& in general), Jabadao type Dance Movement Work, “The Alert Program”, Fine motor/Handwriting issues, including “Handwriting without Tears”)

At Therapy In Motion we prefer to work in partnership with parents, recognising that parents know the child best. Where possible assessment & treatment are carried out within the child’s own environment (either home or school) but therapists may also work in hospitals, child development units, health centres or preschool groups.
